A Few Minutes With Dr. Emilio: Seis de Mayo Edition

When we last left The Good Doctor, he was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Good day to you and all the ships at sea... Welcome to this week's special edition of "A Few Minutes With Dr. Emilio".  As I subscribe to the law of contrary public opinion... If everyone thinks one thing, then I say, bet the other way.  Thus "Seis de Mayo" at The Journal.

So onto this week's edition... The routine is the same: A lead story, some adult theater related news nuggets, maybe an opinion or two, and lastly a photo of The Good Doctor in a public place.  It's a time honored tradition here at The Journal (at least for the last several months).

So let's get started, shall we?

In the name of God and the Baby Jesus, if you have a vested interest in this thing of ours, and have the opportunity to visit Portland, OR, do it.  Please.  The action at The Paris Theater in Portland has been excellent as of late.  A prime example being Kitty's report which was posted yesterday here at The Journal.

Portland's adult  theater scene is like jumping in a time machine back to the 1980's, when every large and semi-large city had an adult theater. These movie houses, neighborhood or Main Street movie houses showing "Mary Poppins" in the 60's, or grindhouse fare in the early 70's, were now featuring hardcore XXX content.  Fast forwarding to today, you can count the number of these adult theaters on one hand.

This is what makes Portland unique.  The Rose City has two such theaters: The Paris Theater on 3rd and Burnside, and The Oregon Theater, on SE Division Street.  Two theaters, two very different venues.  The Paris is a much smaller house, even smaller than The Jefferson Theater it effectively replaced.  The Oregon is a large house, only eclipsed in scale nationally by the Art Cinema in Hartford, The Foster in Youngstown, OH, the soon to be closed Westwood in Toledo.

So kids, if you want to jump in Mr. Peabody's Way Back Machine, there really is one place to go: Portland.

  • As mentioned above, The Westwood Art Theater in Toledo is closing it's doors on Saturday May 21st. The Good Doctor is trying to re-arrange some business related travel in order to cover the final weekend, but no guaranty.  If I can make it happen, I will provide full coverage of the story.  If not, I'm sure there will be reports from a few regular Journal contributors on this event.  Stay tuned.
  • The Good Doctor is in dire need of new Flash Reports, Field Reports, and Blast From The Past Reports.  I know it's time to work on your lawn after this long winter, and spring cleanup time is upon us, but the news desk here at The Journal never closes.  The public is hungry for reports, and it's up to you to provide your take on this thing of ours.  Submit your reports to me directly at emiliolizardo1@gmail.com. It's easy. It's fun. Try it and join the ranks of the reporters here at The Journal.
  • A public service announcement from The Good Doctor: Beware of people who ask too many questions that seem out of whack or too far fetched when it comes to this thing of ours on Yahoo Groups or in response to posts on such groups.  A friend of The Journal was drawn into a long protracted dialog with such a person (a female poster in theory), and after investing a lot of time in the dialog, turned out to be a fraud.  The Good Doctor himself even talked with this same person awhile back, and after 1 e-mail, something didn't pass the smell test with me.  Plus, a "profile" photo of her was obviously Photoshopped (badly I might add).  Caveat emptor.  Right Kathy M?
  • In monitoring daytime adult theater visits, I still place 15th Avenue Adult Books and Theater in Melrose Park, IL on top of that list.  The daytime specials they offer draw a small but steady group of couples who visit the theater and spa at this excellent facility.  If you subscribe to my Twitter feed, you will see my Tweets about couples entering the store/theater/spa.
  • An update from Enzyte Bob will be posted tomorrow on the ongoing drama in Tampa at Fantasyland and Fantasyland II with local LE.
  • If you have any adult theater related questions, please feel free to e-mail me directly.  I will do my best to answer your queries quickly and confidentially.  Just don't ask me my favorite color or bird (red and the Speckled Egret).
  • The Good Doctor would love a current report from the following adult theaters: Hollywood Erotic Boutique in Seattle, Twin Cinemas at Buford Highway in Atlanta, The Summit Bookstore in Warren, OH, Adult Video Liquidators in Buffalo, The Paris Theater in Syracuse, or Cinema 309 in Wilkes-Barre. Thanks.
  • I hope you like the new look  and feel for The Journal design.  It was time for a refresh, and I'm happy with the results.  As always, I welcome any feedback you have on the design.
  • Lastly... Thank you all for supporting The Journal.  April was the highest volume month yet, up 17% over March 2011.  We also had the single highest volume viewing day, with over 800 unique visitors and 2,500 pageviews that day.
Have a great Seis de Mayo everyone.  Play safe, and don't conform.

Thanks,
Doc
